2011 APDDA Conference Review

Than Johnson is CEO of CRSI, the largest non-profit residential provider in Ohio serving citizens in HCB Waiver and ICF/DD settings. Mr. Johnson is a Past National President of ANCOR and is the current President of the State Provider Associate (OPRA). He currently serves as the co-chair of ANCOR's Government Relations Division. He served, by appointment, on President Bush's CMS/Medicare National Advisory Council. He has also served on the CMS Technical Advisory Committee on ICF/DD Issues. Mr. Johnson presented to the CMS Committee on Challenges of Medicaid Tag Number 198 issues of adverse LOC citations. He also presented before the Nation Medicaid Commission on Reform.
Than Johnson :: What Role State Developmental Centers Could Play in the Future


Max E. Churma has more than 30 years of human service and health care management experience, especially in the area of developmental disabilities, mental health, child welfare and juvenile justice. Max left state government in 1997 to create a private consulting agency that grew to annual revenue of $1 million which was acquired by a publicly-traded international consulting firm in 2005. He has served as executive deputy commissioner for the agency since returning to the public sector in 2007. He became acting commissioner for New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) in July 2010.
Max Chmura: Keynote Address


Susan Smith, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Board Certified Behavior Analyst, is the Director of I-PART (Iowa's Program Assistance Response Team), which operates from the Woodward (IA) Resource Center (WRC), an ICF-MR which serves 200 people, many with co-existing conditions. She earned an M.S. in Community Counseling at Drake University and a Graduate Academic Certification in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of North Texas.
